The Mater Hospital, established in 1962 by the Sisters of Mercy, is a prominent healthcare institution in Nairobi. The Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic Order of Nuns from Ireland, initially set up a 60-bed general hospital to cater to the healthcare needs of the community.
JOB SUMMARY:
- To provide efficient food and beverage services to patients, customers, and staff in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain cleanliness in the ward kitchenette.
- Deliver efficient services to patients while ensuring a hygienic environment is upheld at all times.
- Clean cutlery and crockery, ensuring an adequate supply of clean water for patients and staff.
- Scrub and clean all kitchen surfaces, including fridges, shelves, and walls in the ward kitchenette.
- Collect and submit menus and diet sheets to the kitchen daily for the dietician’s preparation of menus.
- Prepare mis-en-place for dinner service and deliver late menus to the Catering Department.
- Serve all meals to patients.
- Prepare tea for ward staff.
- Ensure patient satisfaction and proper handover to the next shift.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma in Food and Beverage from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role.
- Trained and experienced in HACCP; experience in a busy hospital is an added advantage.
